TERM 1 2012, Peek-a-Boo! I Love You!

The game "peekaboo" is the most basic of parent-baby games, yet one of the richest. In one simple gesture, baby's beloved adult magically appears smiling, looking only at baby, telling baby with face and eyes alight, "I'm here just for you, whenever you need me; you are adorable, and I love you so much!" No wonder babies have seemingly unending appetite for this game! Peekabo, I love You!, is inspired by songs and baby games from many countries around the world and the special love between a parent and a child. Each class will be a multicultural celebration of baby's growth and family love.

Our Friday 9:15 am Village Sign class is especially designed for older babies (8 to 20 months). In this class you will receive the tools and knowledge to communicate with each other using basic Auslan (Australian Sign Language), while following the same "Peek-A-Boo! I Love You!” curriculum as our other Village Babies classes. Through songs and play, you’ll both learn signs for words like “lost” and “found” that you can use whilst playing the peek-a-boo game with your baby. As we progress through the ‘Peek-A-Boo! I love You!’ unit, we will also learn foundation signs that will aid in communicating with your child as they grow.

What you’ll experience in class:

You’ll play, sign, and sing. Using everyday items in engaging small and large group activities, we’ll sing songs and practice the sign as we say the words, play with toys, and help her learn both the spoken word and the sign.
Expert advice. You’ll learn to spot your baby’s most “teachable moments” and the sign language teaching methods of the experts. Plus you’ll learn to recognize and respond to your child’s versions of signs.
Communication through sign language. When your child is chasing a bubble or asking for the ball, you’ll make the sign for it and say the word. So she has the ways to associate the word with the object: she holds the ball, she hears you say the word, and she sees you make the sign.

Developmentally appropriate sign language curriculum for parents and hearing children, ages 8 months to 20 months
9 week term
Weekly 45 minute class
A set of At Home Materials following the Village unit for the term, including a book you can read with your baby, a CD, posters, and an instrument to keep.
